Pete and Sarah

Pete and Sarah came to me with an image of a hand crafted timber piece that they had bought  for their wedding on a recent trip to Tasmania.

It was the perfect rustic cake stand for their wedding cake!

And so, we set about creating a ‘timber inspired’ cake design with a very personal touch!

Gibraltar Hotel - S&P-720

The entire cake is etched by hand in buttercream to create rustic timber textures.

It was a new technique, and something I made up along the way, but I do love a challenge!

The stunning florals in autumn tones were by Jennie of Merci Bouquet .

The finishing touch to this rustic design just has to be Pete and Sarah’s initials etched within a love heart – so much fun!

All of the guests were treated to a variety of cake flavours.

The bottom tier was lemon with vanilla buttercream.

The middle tier was coconut with vanilla buttercream.

The top tier was white chocolate truffle cake with vanilla buttercream.

There was also an extra cutting cake in lemon.

Here is a beautiful image of Pete and Sarah on their special day.

I was of course extremely chuffed to receive their special thank you.

Thank you - Alison

Wishing Pete and Sarah every happiness!

Working with Melanie was extra special.

After discussing a few key design elements, I asked Melanie if she would like to send me a picture of her wedding dress as inspiration for the cake design.

Once I saw the photos….I knew this was where we were heading with the cake!

I completed a couple of sketches and Melanie decided on this one, with a couple of small changes.

And here is what we ended up with!

The Bottom tier was  Raspberry and Hazelnut with dark chocolate ganache
The middle tier was Lemon with white chocolate ganache
The top tier was Chocolate Mud with dark chocolate ganache.

All of the iced flowers and rose petals were hand made and replicas of those sewn onto the skirt of Melanie’s stunning wedding dress.

Lina of Chanele Rose Flowers and Styling created the most stunning cake table.  Just look at the gorgeous florals and lovely styling!

The atmosphere was truly magical!

Congratulations to Melanie and Jason!

Gemma and Chris’s Dessert Table

It was a pleasure to plan and style a dessert table for Gemma and Chris’s wedding at Milton Park.

The star attraction on the table was the two tiered mauve ‘beauty’ by  Alison Lawson Cakes.

Bottom tier  - Vanilla infused Victoria Sponge with vanilla buttercream filling.

Top Tier – Chocolate and Orange cake with vanilla buttercream filling.

The monogrammed cookies, also by Alison Lawson Cakes , added a stylish and personal touch to the table!

Mongrammed cookies

Swirly meringues are one of my favourite gluten free treats, and feature widely on all of my dessert tables.  Meringue takes on just about any colour, and  I think this was my first time swirling with ‘mauve’!

The cute  chalkboards made a very sweet addition to the table as dessert labels!

Gemma and Chris’s guests were truly spoiled with so many delicious offerings.  Other treats on the table by Gumnut Patisserie in Bowral included:

Mini white chocolate cheesecakes with tinted mauve ganache

Mini white chocolate and berry mousse cups

Mini lemon meringue pies

Macarons in salted caramel and lavender and honey

Mini red velvet and chocolate mud cupcakes

Your mouth must be watering by now!  Such a divine line up of sweet treats!

Wishing Gemma and Chris every happiness together!

Rustic Charm for Emma

Another take on my most popular ‘rustic buttercream’ cake design!

I love the hessian and twine detail,

and aren’t those fresh flowers just out of this world?

I am always ecstatic when I hear that Michelle of Affair with George is adding flowers to one of my cakes.  Michelle’s warmth and artistic flair just ooze from her work…one extremely talented gal!

Both tiers were triple layered lemon cake with vanilla buttercream.

Happy 70th Birthday!

It was an honour to make the birthday cake for my father-in-law’s recent 70th birthday celebration.

I thoroughly enjoyed making the edible catamaran, and other ‘sailing inspired’ decorations.

The rippled water effect on the top of the cake was hand painted.

The catamaran was even sailing at speed, as you can see by the wash!

On the inside, there was triple layered chocolate mud with dark chocolate ganache – a firm favourite in our family!
